We are pleased to announce that Helen Hughes will be joining Patient Safety Learning as the latest member of the team.
Helen’s passion for improved patient safety is derived from a personal family insight into the impact of unsafe care and her frustration at the ineffectiveness of organisational responses to learn from error. She has brought her insight from senior executive and non executive roles in healthcare, regulation and the charity sector and her knowledge of human factors and systems to make her a valuable member of the Patient Safety Learning Steering Group.
Helen is delighted to be joining Patient Safety Learning in a part time executive role. Helen will be supporting our development as a vibrant and sustainable organisation that champions and provides support to improve culture and learning in healthcare while ensuring that patient and staff experience is at the centre of patient safety improvement.
Helen’s focus will be on two of our key areas: a platform for sharing patient safety learning and a programme for training in patient safety. In both of these areas, Helen will apply her considerable skill and experience to help us turn our plans into reality.
Helen will work closely with our team at Patient Safety Learning. We will also be engaging with stakeholders and potential partners in these developments.
Helen Hughes is an experienced executive leader in organisational effectiveness and transformational change. She has held leadership roles in healthcare in the UK and the World Health Organisation and in improvement and regulatory bodies such as the National Patient Safety Agency, Equality and Human Rights Commission, Parliamentary Health Services Ombudsman and the Charity Commission. She chairs a charity, Solace Women's Aid, providing services and support for women and girls who have been victims of domestic violence or sexual abuse.
