PRESS RELEASE

13th March 2019

Patient Safety Learning emphasises the need for systemic thinking in response to NHSI patient safety strategy consultation.

Patient Safety Learning’s response uses the thinking and actions developed for its forthcoming White Paper to offer practical actions to inform the NHSI proposed patient safety strategy.

(LONDON, UK, 13 MARCH 2019) – NHS Improvement (NHSI) has been tasked with developing a new Patient Safety strategy. It sought consultation responses to its proposals by mid-February. Patient Safety Learning capitalised on current work on its new White Paper to provide NHSI with a thorough, constructive and practical response.

Helen Hughes, Chief Executive of Patient Safety Learning, said, “We were delighted to use our latest thinking to contribute to the new NHSI patient safety strategy. While we support many proposals in the strategy, we believe that system-wide leadership for patient safety, and a greater focus on sharing learning, are both needed to tackle the persistence of avoidable harm. Our forthcoming White Paper offers just such a combination of systems-level thought and recommendations for action.”
